DAY 01: MEXICO CITY

Reception at the Benito Juárez International Airport in Mexico City and transfer to the selected hotel. Accommodation.

DAY 02: MEXICO CITY (BASILICA OF GUADALUPE AND TEOTIHUACAN PYRAMIDS)

Breakfast: The tour begins at the Basilica of Guadalupe, where you can see Juan Diego’s ayate with the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe and enjoy free time to attend mass if available. Then, we continue to Teotihuacan, where we will visit the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon, the Citadel, the Temple of Quetzalcoatl, the Avenue of the Dead, and the Temples of the Jaguar and the Snails. We will also stop at a crafts shop, where we will see how the Teotihuacans made textiles and crafts, as well as enjoy a tasting of tequila and/or mezcal. Accommodation.

DAY 03: MEXICO CITY (CITY TOUR)

Breakfast. We will visit the Plaza de la Constitución, better known as the Zócalo, the second largest square in the world, where the National Palace, the Metropolitan Cathedral, and the ruins of the Templo Mayor are located. Transfer to the Plaza de las Tres Culturas, which brings together pre-Hispanic, colonial, and modern vestiges. Visit a crafts market, and then we will tour the Paseo de la Reforma, where we will see the Angel of Independence. Finally, a panoramic drive from the vehicle to Chapultepec Forest, with the Chapultepec Castle, the Lake, the National Auditorium, and the Anthropology Museum. Accommodation.

DAY 04: MEXICO CITY – PUEBLA – CONTINUE BY BUS TO OAXACA

Departure from Mexico City at 8:00 am (depending on the hotel where passengers are staying) to Cholula, where the great pyramid can be seen, famous for having a colonial church on top; entrance not included. Continue to Santa María Tonantzintla, entrance to its church. Continue to Puebla to visit the Chapel of the Rosary and the Cathedral, the Main Square, and the Parián, which is Puebla’s artistic neighborhood. Lunch included (without drinks). Approximately at 5:00 PM, transfer to the bus station. First-class bus ticket. Departure from Puebla to Oaxaca, with a journey of 4 hours. Arrival and transfer to the hotel in Oaxaca. Accommodation.

DAY 05: OAXACA – EN ROUTE TO MONTE ALBAN

MONTE ALBÁN: An astonishing archaeological site, it was the ancient capital of the Zapotecs and is among the most important in Mesoamerica, founded around 500 BC, flourishing until 750 AD. On a vast esplanade, the pyramids, temples, several patios, palaces, and a ball court extend. ARRAZOLA: In this fascinating town, colorful figurines called alebrijes are made from «copal» wood, which are highly original, imaginative, and usually unique creations. SAN BARTOLO COYOTEPEC: Oaxacan folk art is one of the main tourist attractions due to its richness, quality, variety, and prices. In this town, the famous «Black Clay» pottery is made. Various products are handcrafted and cooked in an underground oven using ancient burnishing and carving techniques. During the tour, there will be a stop for lunch at a traditional restaurant (not included). Accommodation.

DAY 06: OAXACA – MITLA, TREE OF TULE AND MEZCAL ROUTE

The famous Tule tree, a giant ahuehuete, stands 40 m tall and 44 m in diameter at the base of the trunk, with an age of 2000 years. We will continue the adventure by delving into a colorful place, the Zapotec weaving village of Teotitlán del Valle. We will admire the making of various types of rugs using ancestral techniques; be inspired by their knowledge in each explanation of the wonderful process for creating unmatched rugs where cochineal is used to shape unique designs and replicas of great painters. Our next visit is to the city of the dead: the archaeological site of Mitla was inhabited at the same time as Monte Albán, but the Zapotecs did not begin construction until around 200 BC. We will conclude the tour with a delightful taste of this beautiful state; we will learn about the mezcal production process and enjoy some of the different flavors offered: from aged mezcal to its various delicious creams. «For every bad thing, mezcal, and for every good thing, too.» Time for lunch at the passenger’s expense. DAY 07: OAXACA – TUXTLA GUTIÉRREZ – SUMIDERO CANYON – CHIAPA DE CORZO – SAN CRISTÓBAL DE LAS CASAS

Departure from the hotel to the Oaxaca airport to take the flight to Tuxtla. Arrival at the airport. Transfer to the dock in Tuxtla Gutiérrez. Boat ride through the Sumidero Canyon, featuring unique flora and fauna, with walls rising to a height of a thousand meters at its peak. Passing through Chiapa de Corzo, founded in 1528 on the banks of the Grijalva River, with its square surrounded by beautiful galleries, there is an exceptional colonial brick building, the Mudéjar Fountain, better known as «La Pila,» built in the 16th century. Departure to San Cristóbal de las Casas. Arrival and accommodation.

DAY 08: SAN CRISTÓBAL DE LAS CASAS – SAN JUAN CHAMULA – ZINACATÁN – SAN CRISTÓBAL DE LAS CASAS

Breakfast. Today we will visit San Juan Chamula and Zinacatán, typical indigenous towns, to learn about the communities and their ancestral customs. We will enter their churches to marvel at their religious rituals. Additionally, these two towns possess a wealth of crafts that will surely catch your attention, as well as their vegetation and homes. Afterward, return to San Cristóbal de las Casas. Time for lunch at the passenger’s expense. Free afternoon; it is suggested to visit the churches, museums, and streets to reaffirm why it is a magical town. The Jade Museum contains a replica of the Tomb of King Pakal, as it was found in Palenque, which is also suggested for a visit. Accommodation.

DAY 09: SAN CRISTÓBAL DE LAS CASAS – AGUA AZUL WATERFALLS – PALENQUE

Breakfast. Departure to the Agua Azul Waterfalls, known for their turquoise color. Entrance to enjoy one of nature’s best spectacles, with the possibility of swimming. Time for lunch at the passenger’s expense. Continue to Palenque. Accommodation.

DAY 10: PALENQUE – CAMPECHE

Breakfast. Visit to Palenque, one of the most important sites in Mexico and the Maya world. Its history, buildings, beauty, and location nestled in the jungle are astonishing. In the Temple of the Inscriptions is the Tomb of King Pakal (which, unfortunately, can no longer be entered). We will see the Temple of the Sun and the Palace with its tower, the Temple of the Cross Foliated. Time for lunch at the passenger’s expense. Continue to Campeche. Panoramic visit of the colorful streets of Campeche. It is suggested to visit the Fort on your own. Accommodation.

DAY 11: CAMPECHE – UXMAL – MÉRIDA

Breakfast. Departure to Uxmal. Entrance to this archaeological site dating back to 800 BC; there we will see the Pyramid of the Magician, the Nunnery Quadrangle, the Governor’s Palace, the Ball Court, etc. Time for lunch at the passenger’s expense and continue to Mérida, the «White City.» Arrival and panoramic tour along Paseo de Montejo, the Monument to the Homeland, the Main Square with the Cathedral and the Government Palace. Accommodation.

DAY 12: MÉRIDA – CHICHÉN ITZÁ – CANCÚN

Breakfast. Departure from the hotel to Chichén Itzá. Named one of the new 7 wonders of the world, Chichén Itzá is the most renowned archaeological site in Mexico and one of the most important of the Maya civilization. Here we find evidence of the knowledge the Maya had in astronomy, mathematics, and architecture. Entrance to admire the Temple of Kukulcán (God of the Wind, the highest God of the Maya), the Ball Court, the Platform of the Skulls, the Observatory, the Plaza of a Thousand Columns, and the Jaguar Temple. Time for lunch at the passenger’s expense. Continue to Cancún. Arrival and drop-off in Cancún around 7:00 PM.
